Video Analysis

Thrash Unreal - Against Me! (Official Music Video)

This video fits into the genre of punk rock. Like most rock videos, the band is shown playing a live performance of the song and this shows the authenticity of the band and their music. To keep the audience interested there is a narrative shown in the video which relates to the themes and meaning of the song however it does not interpret each line of the song as this would be uninteresting. Where the band are placed in this video also reinforces the meaning behind the song, they appear to be underground in a dark basement type location whilst above them there is a party happening where the main character is. These people are all dressed in black and white suits which contrasts with the costumes of the band and the main character, both the location of the band and the costumes of the band conflict with those of the guests at the party and represent social divide. As well as these things, the use of the camera is also important, the way that the lead singer Tom Gabel looks directly into the camera provides a closeness for the audience and as well as this it shows the difference between him and the main character who is meant to feel out of place and despondent; she is always looking away from the camera and from the people around her.
