Digipak Analysis #3

This Digipak is for an album called 'Face in a crowd' by The Sneakypeeks. This band is of a Punk/Pop genre, and is a similar to the Avril Lavigne song and album our group is focusing on.
The photography on this Digipak is quite minimalistic, on the left hand inside cover of the Digipak, there are several images of the band, showing who they are and what instrument they play. This is a typical convention of a Rock/Pop band, as it distinguishes who is who and what type of music they are playing. For example this band is shown to have a singer, a guitarist and a drummer, therefore we know that the music is going to be quite fast paced and loud. The image on the CD on the right hand inside cover is a slightly distorted cartoon face smiling. The cartoon looks hand drawn, which shows a childish side to the band, which is quite popular with  Rock/Pop bands in videos and album artwork and is even hinted at in the lyrics of songs.
The colour scheme of this Digipak shows predominantly red colours, with a deep red on the outside of the cover fading into a lighter red, with white writing. The colour red is usually associated with Rock/Pop bands for many reasons. Red is quite a vivid colour and is usually associated with danger, for example, warning signs are usually in red, ‘Stop’ signs are red and red is the colour of blood. This reflects the ‘dangerous’ side of the band, as bands are often associated with danger, for example performing dangerous stunts in videos and jumping into the crowd whilst performing on a stage.
The font of this Digipak is clear to read and simple, but has a slight twist to it. The boldness of the band name draws us directly to the cover of the Digipak. the Band name is not written in capitals as the boldness of the text draws the attention it needs toward it. The was the band name is written could reflect their type of music, the name is written in bold and stands out, which could reflect the band’s style of music. The name of the album underneath is in a different font and is written all in capital letters. This is to emphasise the name of the album and make it stand out.
The layout of this Digipak is quite simple. The front cover shows the name of the band in the centre of the cover and the album name underneath. The inside left cover shows 4 images of each member of the band which fills up the whole page, and on the inside left cover holds the brightly designed CD and the track listings behind it.
Overall this is a simple yet powerful Digipak for a Rock/Pop band. It conveys all the stereotypes of that particular genre and gives the audience a sense of what type of music is going to be on that particular album.
