Avril Lavigne Advertisement Analysis

The above image is an advertisement for an Avril Lavigne single 'what the hell'. The advertisement is quite plain and uses the colour scheme of black white and red which are quite punk rock kind of colours. The angle that 'Avril' is on in comparison to the rest of the writing may show that she is rebellious. The black around the edge of the advertisement looks as though it has been sprayed which makes you think of graffiti. Graffiti has negative connotations to a lot of people, but as Avril's music is mainly aimed at teenagers and young people, this would be appealing because it's something that breaks the rules. The photograph of Avril Lavigne which is also on the advertisement is not as elegant and glamorous as you would expect on a pop advertisement, her hair is messed up and the way she is posing makes her look slightly indifferent.

This is another advertisement to promote Avril Lavigne's single 'smile' which is from the same album as 'what the hell'. This advertisement is quite different but uses similar techniques to present Avril Lavigne in a certain way. The colour scheme of this advert uses black and white again but this time along with the colour green. I think this is mainly to match the brightly coloured streaks in her hair. The font of the text on this advert is very gritty and almost looks like it is eroding or dissolving; this is to represent the punk rock side of Lavigne and her music. The image of Lavigne that is on the advertisement seems familiar to the one above on the 'what the hell' advert. Again it is different to photographs that are used to promote female pop artists, the image suggests that she has been dancing or moshing which reinforces the public image of Lavigne which has been created in so many ways.
