The advertisement above is for Avril Lavigne’s first album, ‘Let Go’. The colours used on the advert are quite dark, to show the Rock side to the album. The background of the advert shows a busy street with Avril stood in the middle, however the street and the people in the background are blurred. This makes Avril stand out in the middle of the image, therefore drawing the audiences attention to her. The significance of Avril being the only thing in focus shows that she stands out and is different. The way Avril is stood reflects her personality, she is stood with her legs slightly apart and her arms folded, giving us a sense of masculinity, this is also reflected in the way she is dressed. Avril is wearing black baggy jeans, a black top and a long black coat. The colour she has dressed in is stereotyped with rock music, which gives us a sense of what type of music is on the album, and also reflects what kind of character she is. The writing on the advert looks like it has been hand written, and gone over several times. It gives off a scruffy look as there are little lines coming off some of the letters. The writing is white, which gives a contrast to the rest of the advert, therefore making it stand out. The overall advert expresses a rock look, and also portrays Avril as a bit of a tomboy, and shows her ability to be successful swithout having to conform to a stereotypical female artist.
